News A Houston pool company a step above the rest
by Thomas Tucker, published May 24, 2011 ShareThis

Summer is coming and the need to beat the heat is amping up. Sure becoming refreshed in a pool is the ultimate goal, but having amazing surroundings is a close second.

There are plenty of pool companies in and around Houston that can install just a regular concrete pool, but not many can provide the ambiance and beauty of Modern Method Gunite, Inc. They build pools meant to last for decades with an innovative substance called Gunite, with a step above other materials usually used for pool construction.

Other pool companies come and go, but Modern Method Gunite, Inc. has been a installing amazing pools for 29 years. Their success is based on their drive, their experience and not settling for anything less than a 100 percent satisfied customer.

“We focus on quality and service and on top of that we’re probably the pioneers in this area as we’ve been around for about 30 years,” said Edgar of Modern Method Gunite Inc. “We’re the trendsetters.”

Modern Method Gunite’s experienced staff sets them apart from their competitors and they are constantly training new staff for a better flow of talent to make a job go as quickly, professionally and effectively as possible.

“All of our employees are trained and certified nozzlemen and can apply gunite with a hose,” said Edgar. “With our large staff consisting of seven crews, we can “shoot” six days per week and can complete two pools per day.”

Modern Method Gunite, Inc. is located at 3334 Brownie Campbell Road in Houston. They can be reached at (281) 847-1855 or by visiting http://www.mmgtx.com/.

April Fools comes once a year; however, unfortunately more times than they should, home owners are receiving products that they are told is Pebble Tec and finding out later that in fact it was not. In order to avoid this bait-and-switch dilemma, please insure that:

  • Your pool is being applied by an official licensed Pebble Tec applicator
  • Check on http://www.pebbletec.com/locate_installer.aspx for a list of officially licensed applicators.
  • Ask your contractor if they are Pebble Tec Certified Builders or if the installer is a licensed applicator.
  • Ask the applicator if they are officially licensed.
  • Check for Pebble Tec and the official licensed applicators logos
  • Logos should be on the trucks, uniforms, caps, and Products that are being applied.
  • Match your selected Pebble Tec color with the Pebble Tec colors on the Pebble Tec website http://www.pebbletec.com/products.aspx or on the Modern Method Gunite website http://www.mmgtx.com/pebbletec.htm.

Remember that Pebble Tec is a brand name as well as a product. The Pebble Tec product breadth includes: Marbella, Pebble Fina, Pebble Tec, Pebble Sheen, and the Finishing Touches Tile Collection which are all available through the officially licensed applicator: Modern Method Gunite, Inc.

Looks like the Houston Zoo needs a pool, with Pebble Tec, for the new baby Elephants Baylor and Tupelo: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504784_162-20045436-10391705.html

Legend has it that St. Patrick drove all the snakes from Ireland. Sometime back in the fifth century he stood on a hill, the story goes, and used a staff to herd the slithering creatures into the sea, banishing them for eternity.

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, MMG would like to give you some useful information for you to banish any snakes from your pool:

  • Snakes can be discouraged from staying in an area by cutting off their food supply and cover.
    • Mow closely around homes and outbuildings, and store firewood and lumber away from pool or home.
    • Reduce mulch layers around shrubs to about 2 to 3 inches in depth.
    • Snakes also are often found in or near mulch piles and compost piles.  If you have mulch or compost piles, keep them away from the pool or home.
  • Get in the habit of not leaving rafts or floats in the pool when not in use because it will give them places to hide.
  • Always check your skimmers before entering the pool: look before you leap!
  • Please remember that if you do find a snake, the majority are harmless.  Visit http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/herpetology/fl-guide/gettingalong.htm for advice on proper snake removal.

MMG hopes that these suggestions above will help begin the process of eliminating snakes from your pool.  Next St. Patrick’s Day we will comment on how to keep your pool from turning green!
